Good squat technique

How many times have you walked through the gym and looked over to the free-weights area and seen that large frame known to some as a ‘squat rack’ (or the thingy with the bars on it) and wondered what it’s actually for and how to use it without a trip to A+E?

Whenever I go into a gym, I always see someone on the rack (attempting) squatting with a very heavy bar and usually not very good form. It was only my last visit to the gym when I saw someone trying to teach is mate how to squat… Continue

Making things happen...

Making things happen.

Hey guys, yonks ago I posted a video about having the courage to make things happen (here) and although the video isn’t a piece of visual brilliance, the message was important. The message was to take a chance and make a change, the only way you can change your life is to make it happen.

Anyway, one of the members of my community made a fantastic point today when he left a comment (see the… Continue

How can training different energy systems boost your fat loss results?

How can training different energy systems boost your fat loss results?

How many times have you walked into the gym wanting to get on the treadmill, but couldn’t because they were all taken up by keen runners? Not only that, but all the other cardio equipment was taken up as well. How long did you actually have to wait to get on something? There’s a reason why the cardio equipment in the gym is always busy, and that’s because nearly every single member of the gym are all under the… Continue

How will you be remembered?

Over the last few weeks I’ve been sitting going over my own excellence again and again, trying to work out what’s been missing. You know when you get that annoying inner voice that tells you that something isn’t quite right and all it does is aggravate you? Well I’ve been having that. So, I’ve been sitting trying to work out exactly what it is and how I’m going to change it (don’t worry, I’m not having a moan here!)

So, I think I’ve finally got to the bottom of it and I’ve realised… Continue

Book of the month May 09- The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight

Thumbnail
Hey guys, apologies for being rubbish at updating this... I've given myself a kick up the backside to get this book club going! This month's offer is 'The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight' by Thomas Hartman.Every person on this Earth should read this book! Hartman discusses the dangers our society faces by adopting a younger culture attitude and how struggles for wealth and power could eventually lead to catastrophy...Hartman also offers solutions that could potentially save the human race, based…See More

Totally agree. it took a few sharp 'emotional' jolts a few years ago to get me more focused on what I want in life. I think that everyone finds It very easy to remain on the 'drone' path, and it takes effort/guts/determination to…

hydration

Have you ever had one of those workouts where you just can’t seem to perform at your best? We’ve all had sessions where we just feel sluggish and fatigued, but aren’t entirely sure as to why. It was just this morning I was training myself and I knew my performance was below my best, and there’s a simple reason for it.I was dehydrated. We are all told from an early age just how important it is to stay hydrated during exercise, or otherwise it will affect our performance and even potentially our…See More

10 Reasons why your Exercise Programme isn’t getting you results

Have you ever noticed how many people seem to just come and go from the gym? Thousands of people join gyms and health clubs every year with the intention of getting ‘fitter’, but did you know that over a third of new starters quit within three months of joining?I was chatting to one of my new starters this week, and she was telling me how she has been to gyms on and off over the years, but never really felt that she had achieved anything and got bored very quickly, so left. Many people join the…See More

The stone cutter

The stone cutter…Hey guys,We all spend our days striving for more. Most of us slug our guts out on adaily basis because there is always something we want that we don’t have. But how often do we actually sit back and appreciate what we already have? How many of us are really grateful for the fact that we have running water, a bed to sleep in, food on the table…?We all spend our days rushing around trying to accumulate more, but missing what was right in front of us.There’s an old Chinese story…See More

Why cardio is not the key to fat loss

Why Cardio is not the key to fat loss…There’s a common myth out in the world of health and fitness that cardio training is the way forward when it comes to rapidly stripping body fat. People tend to spend hours and hours on the C.V equipment watching the calorie counter, thinking that they are going to see amazing fat loss results. Sorry folks, but in my experience, it’s a load of twoddle…There are many people out there (including some health and fitness ‘professionals’) who will have you…See More

Money Saving Tricks

When it comes to money saving I see it as simply cutting down on the non-essential things in life. However, there is one things that we can all cut out of our monthly expenditure's but it's still very much "essential":- Our gym membership / exercise budget.Ok, now here, I do need a favour from everyone reading: Don't tell my employer (I work in a gym), but I am not a big fan of gyms!! I would much rather see you exercising outside, getting some fresh air, and spending some time communing with…See More

School packed lunch inspections...

Hey guys,in the news this week there has been some controversy about a school inspecting the contents of children's luch boxes, to stop them brining junk food in to school. Now my views are a little mixed on this one. In some aspects I think it is a good idea, as I think it's really important to educate kids and their parents the importance of healthy diet, and develop good eating habbits. I think the current standard of education is a joke, and these so called government guide lines aren't…See More
